Heritage complex repurposing project

The 17th century ‘Hof ter Schaapbeke’ farm complex will be repurposed as a mixed-use business park.

This heritage farm building and distillery, situated on a lobate, undeveloped section of the 95ha ‘De Prijkels’ SME zone was under threat of demolition. The grounds are accessed via a charming, tree-lined driveway and comprise a unique collection of buildings, including a farmhouse, barn, stables and distillery.

We’re keen to restore both the material and immaterial heritage value of the farm, and our design will consequently centre around the reuse and activation of existing buildings. The solution primarily lies in the program design, as well as in-depth technical stability and heritage analyses. The repurposed site will make use of a variety of business typologies in order to function as a co-working space. We also plan to lavish particular attention on the indoor and outdoor spaces, to promote a modern ‘meeting, lunch, sports and relaxation’ culture.
